The goal of our project was to track the effectiveness that journalism has on the history of a certain event. We looked at the recent historical event of the Church Schism that occurred within the Anglican communion of the Episcopal church of the United States. To do so we tracked frequencies throughout the articles. We worked with location by using these tags (e.g.locationFort Worth, Texas/location). This allowed us to map out our locations to see how far the Schism reached. Next we created a Schism tag (e.g. schism withdrawal/schism)that allowed us to monitor the amount of times the any phrasing pertaining to the split was used throughout each article. Going along with monitoring the frequency we created speaker tags and quote tags to allow us to see who spoke the most throughout the entire list of articles. We also tagged any parishes that were mentioned to list the involvement that the Pittsburgh diocese took in the schism based on the parishes. With this site we have broken down our data by articles as well as the complete collection of data. This will allow us to display the data in a comprehensible way to allow a study to be done. By comparing the graphs of each article we hope to show how effective articles are in comparison to the others. The data we collect is to demonstrate how compiling articles together allows for a good understanding of an event that covers several years such as is done with the Schism event.
